ATM – PIN Number Reversal

If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from an ATM machine, you can notify the police by entering your PIN # in reverse.
For example, if your pin number is 1234, then you would put in 4321.

The ATM system recognizes that your PIN number is backwards from the ATM card you placed in the machine.
The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to the robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to the location.

This information was recently broadcast on CTV by Crime Stoppers. However it is seldom used because people just don’t know about it.
Please pass this along to everyone.

This is the kind of information people don’t mind receiving, so pass it on to your family and friends
Has anyone had to try this? I hope not, but if yes please let us know it works.

Katy Perry pulled from Sesame Street

Producers of the hit children's TV show Sesame Street have cancelled an appearance by cleavage-baring pop star Katy Perry following feedback from parents.

Perry, who rose to fame in 2008 with the number one single I Kissed A Girl, was set to appear on the premiere of Sesame Street's 41st season on September 27.
The segment appeared online on Monday and showed Perry performing her song Hot N Cold alongside the popular puppet Elmo.

The song, originally about an elusive lover, was rewritten for the segment in which Elmo is unsure about playing a game of dress up with Perry.
"In light of the feedback we've received on the Katy Perry music video, which was released on YouTube only, we have decided we will not air the segment on the television broadcast of Sesame Street, which is aimed at preschoolers," Sesame Street said in a statement.

A spokesman for Perry said the singer "enjoyed working with Sesame Street" and noted the video can still be seen on Perry's website. It also is still available on YouTube.

Perry is not the first celebrity to be pulled from the show.
A music video featuring singer Chris Brown was cancelled in February when Brown pleaded guilty to assaulting his former girlfriend Rihanna.

"I don't want a tomato picked by a Mexican - I want it picked by an American, then sliced by a Guatemalan, and served by a Venezuelan in a spa where a Chilean gives me a Brazilian,"

Stephen Colbert testified in Congress on Friday about an immigration bill that he said — in all truthiness — he had not read, “like most members of Congress.”
And when the comedian was challenged by one disgruntled lawmaker about his expertise, which was based on a single day spent hamming it up in a bean field for his show on Comedy Central, Mr. Colbert, keeping completely in character, said that was enough time to make him an expert on anything.
Mr. Colbert testified before the House immigration subcommittee about the day he recently spent picking vegetables on a farm in upstate New York. The gig was part of the “Take Our Jobs” campaign by the United Farm Workers of America to highlight the work done by migrant workers. More

US Blockbuster bankruptcy 'not all bad'

Blockbuster Australia says it is independent from and unaffected by its US namesake's bankruptcy declaration, and even says the move will be a positive thing for the Texas-based company.
Blockbuster Inc is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after it fell victim to competitors Netflix and Redbox, meaning hundreds of its stores are likely to close as it tries to reverse its fortunes.
The company said it had reached an agreement with a group of creditors to reduce its debt from the current level of just over $1.05 billion to about $110 million.

Paul Uniacke, co-owner of the Franchise Entertainment Group which operates the Blockbuster and Video Ezy chains in Australia and New Zealand, says the bankruptcy declaration presents a "huge opportunity" for the US company.

"Under the leadership in the US of [chief executive] Jim Keyes ... they have got half a chance of really coming out of this Chapter 11 in a much stronger position than they went in," he said.
"I think that's exciting for them."
Mr Uniacke says Blockbuster has been struggling to compete under the burden of the billion-dollar debt for the last seven or eight years.

"So where they've got Redbox, which is a kiosk company, they were allowed to get in front of Blockbuster by some period of time, and they've got 20,000 kiosks in the US," he said.

"Blockbuster have some 4,000 or 5,000, but they're so far behind because they haven't had the funds.
"Netflix is delivering DVDs through they mail - [they] have 12 million-odd members. Blockbuster have over 3 million members on that.

"They were slow again to start and because of funds haven't been able to push on as hard as that, and that's had a significant effect on their business."
Mr Uniacke says the bankruptcy protection will allow new Blockbuster CEO Jim Keyes the protection to pursue changes to the company's business model.

"Blockbuster acquired a company in the US some two years ago called Movielink that was previously owned by the studios.

"That's a download company, so they have download models. [Blockbuster] have been changing their model for some period of time.

"This Chapter 11 will probably allow them to close 200 to 400 stores that they otherwise would have to continue to pay the rent [on] that probably needed to be closed two or three years ago."

CHINESE given green light to pollute our waters... (whats new?)

A mine can now proceed to dump millions of tonnes of waste into the sea in Papua New Guinea after a legal battle to stop it was abandoned.

A temporary injunction had been preventing the Ramu nickel mine from building a deep-sea tailings pipeline in Astrolabe Bay, near Madang.
But this week the landowners who won the injunction dumped their lawyer and abandoned the legal battle to make it a permanent ban.

National court Justice David Cannings approved their request to discontinue the proceedings, but said their change of heart was "suspicious".

He said people would legitimately wonder if the landowners had been threatened, intimidated or paid off.
The decision means the majority Chinese-owned mine can proceed with plans to dump 5 million tonnes of tailings a year into a deep-sea trench.

Reasons for becoming a rebublic No: 67

THE Queen reportedly asked the British government for money from a fund for poor people to help pay heating bills on her palaces.
The request was rebuffed because officials feared the news would be a public relations disaster for the monarch, according to the Independent, which learned of the request under Freedom of Information legislation.

Royal aides complained to ministers in 2004 that the Queen's gas and electricity bills had increased by 50 per cent and were now "untenable", costing more than STG1 million a year.

Aides said the £15 million ($24.72 million) state grant the queen received for the upkeep of the palaces was inadequate and asked if the royal family was eligible for special funds to replace four combined heat and power units at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle.

The money would come from a government scheme to fund heating programs that benefit people on low incomes.

According to the Independent, the then Labour government initially agreed to the idea, but then changed its mind.

An official wrote to the palace, pointing out the fund's intended purpose, adding: "I also feel a bit uneasy about the probable adverse press coverage if the palace were given a grant at the expense of, say, a hospital."

Dirty Delhi 2010 - Inside the athletes' village filthy underbelly - Pictures - Commonwealth Games Disgrace

BRAND-NEW toilets in the village are filthy beyond description.
News_Rich_Media: Photos reveal 'filthy' DelhiJust metres down a landscaped boulevard designed to transport visitors from the chaos of suburban Delhi to the tranquillity of the Commonwealth Games athletes' village, a small child squats to defecate in the elegant sandstone gutter.

Well, where else would he go?

In a country where mobile phones outnumber toilets, this is a common sight - and it looks as though it's one the world's finest and fittest may not be spared despite the best efforts of the Indian government and the Commonwealth Games Federation.

The air is, by turns, fragrant then fetid, as the stench from stormwater outlets intermittently defeats the flowering frangipani trees that line the way.

Just hours before the arrival of the first 50 athletes in Delhi, workers shovel dirt onto large puddles of still water to try to reduce the potential breeding ground for the dengue fever-carrying mosquito that has wreaked havoc across the city this monsoon season.

The Australian saw dozens of workers armed with brooms, buckets and mops walking around the compound. But few were doing any cleaning.

Full-body airport scanners "a waste of money and a privacy invasion"

AFTER a six-month test, Italy's government will drop the use of full-body scanners for security checks in airports, judging them slow and ineffective, Italian daily Corriere della Sera reported.
The scanners in the airports of Rome, Venice and the southern city of Palermo are no longer in use and Milan's airport is likely to stop using the machines in the near future.
"We didn't get good results from body scanners during testing, it takes a long time to examine a person, more than with a manual inspection,'' said Vito Riggio, the president of Italy's aviation authority.
Officials also believe measures taken to address privacy concerns over the use of the scanners have dampened the machines' effectiveness at locating arms and explosives, Corriere della Sera reported.

Dead Cat also found in washing machine -Perth, WA, Australia

Sean Murphy, 3, was found unconscious by his mother Kerry in the front loader washing machine in their Hilton home just after 2pm on Monday after she woke from a nap.
She also discovered a dead cat in the washing machine with her son.

Detectives say the boy's death from fatal injuries is, at this stage, being treated as suspicious.
Ms Murphy and her defacto partner Craig Sheppard, both 24, were interviewed at length by detectives at Fremantle Police Station yesterday.

Their lawyer Terry Dobson said Mr Sheppard and Ms Murphy denied any involvement in Sean's death.

"The police made it quite clear that both of them are suspects,'' he said.

He said his clients were finding it difficult to cope with the loss.

Police grilling
Mr Dobson said Mr Sheppard was at work on Monday when Sean was found but was still considered a suspect.

"He was questioned and cooperated fully, he took part in a video recorded interview and after the family identified Sean, he took part in further interviews and gave a written statement," Mr Dobson said.

"The police made their views very clear to Mr Sheppard but he still cooperated with them ... despite some things being said to him that were, in his view, very very upsetting and quite awful, that the police considered that he could be responsible."
Mr Dobson said it was after Mr Sheppard realised he was under suspicion that he sought legal advice.
"There's no issue about the level of cooperation ... (but) you've got a death of a little one, and it's like husbands and wifes; the police automatically look at a spouse, so it's not to say there's anything in it, it's just a pretty basic policing tactic."
Mr Dobson said the couple were shattered by the boy's death, with family friends asking media camped outside their Harwood Street home to give the family space to grieve.
"On top of such a tragic loss and the grief that's come with it, they are also shocked and confused because of the circumstances of Sean's passing," he said.

Forensic police took samples and the washing machine from the scene. A post-mortem examination was conducted yesterday but is continuing.

"They are doing further testing today, which isn't unusual," Mr Dobson said.

US accused of plotting 911 - IRAN

The US led an enraged Western walkout after Mr Ahmadinejad's latest incendiary remarks, which also attacked Israel and accused the West of monopolising nuclear power - at a time when his country faces nuclear sanctions.
Two US officials who had been watching the speech led the protest over the September 11 comments.
The British and other European Union delegations quickly followed after Mr Ahmadinejad said most Americans believed their government was involved in the 2001 attacks. Canada boycotted the speech even before it started.
The Iranian president said there was a theory that “some segments within the US government orchestrated the attack to reverse the declining American economy and its grips on the Middle East in order also to save the Zionist regime”.

“The majority of the American people as well as other nations and politicians agree with this view,” he declared to the astonished chamber.
About 3000 people died in the attacks by al-Qa'ida suicide attackers who hijacked jets and flew them into the World Trade Centre in New York, the Pentagon in Washington and a field in Pennsylvania.
The US mission at the UN furiously slammed the Iranian leader in a statement released even before Mr Ahmadinejad had finished speaking.
“Rather than representing the aspirations and goodwill of the Iranian people, Mr Ahmadinejad has yet again chosen to spout vile conspiracy theories and anti-Semitic slurs that are as abhorrent and delusional as they are predictable,” said Mark Kornblau, spokesman for the US mission. Read more

Netflix Nabs NBC Deal

Netflix(NFLX_) announced on Friday that it will expand its licensing agreement with NBC, allowing users to stream prior televisions series from its cable and broadcast networks.
Netflix subscribers will be able to watch series like Saturday Night Live, Friday Night Lights, Monk and Battlestar Galactica, the company said.

General Electric(GE_), the parent of NBC, is in the process of selling a majority stake to Comcast(NFLX).

This deal comes after rival and video giant Blockbuster(BLOKA.PK) filed for bankruptcy on Thursday. While the company insists it will continue to operate amid the restructuring, there's no doubt its store base will become significantly smaller, presenting a prime opportunity for Netflix to swoop in and pick up more market share.

Earlier in the week Netflix hit a new high of $163.72 on fears of a Blockbuster bankruptcy.
Netflix has been working over the last several months to expand its streaming content, first through a partnership with EPIX, a joint venture between Viacom(VIA_), Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Lions Gate Entertainment(LFG) that could add up to 20,000 new titles to Netflix's streaming content.
