UK police begin tweeting marathon to show public how hard they work

POLICE at a UK force took to cyberspace today to tweet every call made to them over a 24 hour period - in an experiment designed to show how hard they are working.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP), in northern England, began the "tweet-athon" because it wanted to give the public an idea of the workload officers face - as forces across the country face massive budget cuts.
Within the first few hours, officers had been called out to deal with a range of incidents, including a horse on the loose, a series of burglaries, a search for a missing teenager, a rape investigation, complaints of annoying text messages being received and cows on the rampage.
After four hours police had received almost 300 calls, including one saying a man was holding a baby over a bridge. But the force tweeted: "Police immediately attended and it was man carrying dog that doesn’t like bridges.”
