A MAN has been charged with driving a car into safety barriers at Adelaide Airport and running on to the tarmac in a major security incident.
A 28-year-old man has been charged with state and federal offences after allegedly smashing his car through a wall and running on to the tarmac at Adelaide airport.Federal police detained the man who has been charged with trespassing on Commonwealth land.
He also faces state charges of driving while disqualified.
"The Australia Federal Police is confident that there was no threat to aviation security, the incident was isolated and was not security related," a spokeswoman said.
The incident happened about 8am (CDT) today and did not affect the schedule of flights at the airport.
Police said the driver, who had been alone in the car, fled the vehicle and then scaled a 3m fence to get to the tarmac, where he was tackled by several AFP officers.
